Books
Here are the books that helped me navigate showing up for my creative self. Books that are permanent on my bookshelf which I keep referring back to a lot.
By Austin Kelon:
One of my recents reads and full of wisdom and points to change your perspective on creativity and showing up in general. I will reread this one again and again!
- The Creative Act: A Way of Being By Rick Rubin
If you are a new mum or navigating life with toddlers this is the book for you. I wish I had this book when I was a new mum. It would have given me a better perspective and pushed me to show up for my creativity:
- The Creative Doer By Anna Lovind
Shutting your inner critic and getting on with your work:
- Shut Your Monkey by Danny Gregory
Finding ways to be creative no matter how busy you are:
- Art Before Breakfast Danny Gregory
Books About Sketchbooks
I love sketchbooks and I am obsessed with seeing other peoples sketchbooks, drawing inspiration from them, analyzing and then coming up with things of my own. Books about sketchbooks and sketchbook practice:
- Sketchbooks, The hidden ART of designers, Illustrators & Creatives
- The Art of the Sketchbook By Sandu House
- Your Sketchbook Your Self by Felicity Allen
Magazines
Magazines are a constant well of inspiration and recently I have come across FEEL FREE magazine which I am loving so much. By an Interior Designer Leanne Ford. Her aesthetic is filled with neutrals and natural materials featuring creatives who almost fall in that category and lots of typography and quotes for your walls at the end of every issue. The layout of the magazine itself is very inspirational and lots of composition ideas for your sketchbook.
- In Her Studio is my all time favourite. A peek into studios of many women around the world their work and their stories. I savor every page and dream of owning my own.
NOTE: Due to nature of magazines being seasonal and not in print for long periods you are more likely not to find the ones I linked in stock. I am linking them here for your reference so you can see the issues and then try to source the newer editions else where.
